Bitter-Sweet Moments

My Last work email

Quote

“Today is my last workday and it is really bitter sweet feeling, retiring after 33 years. Thank you all very much for your kind words and well wishes in the various videos and farewell e card for me.

I have truly enjoyed these 33 years working with you and thank you for all your teamwork, partnership, debates, and friendship through our time together.

I wish each and every one of you the very BEST, in both your personal and professional life for all the years ahead! Take care and keep in touch!

With Best Wishes, Lyn”  Unquote

Beautiful bouquet given by my staff

Tears rolled as I penned my last work email on 30 Sept 2020 with the title “THANK YOU”. Yes I have decided  to thank my colleagues, many whom have become friends, instead of saying the traditional “FAREWELL”. This was not a farewell, I am sure I will be keeping in touch with many of them.

I have often heard the term “mixed feeling” and today, I truly understood and experienced what it really meant. Though I have planned my retirement for almost a year now, it was never real till it is real into the final moments.

It was indeed very hard to let go, I was still very actively engaged with meetings till 4pm that day. I have intentionally waited till the very last moment to send my last mail as I did not think I could handle my emotions once my mail get out.

Feeling very blessed and grateful to have enjoyed a great professional life journey of 33 years. I am excited and looking forward to my new phase of life.

I immediately left my home office for the hotel, right after I sent out my last email, for a staycation to celebrate my retirement.

An Eerily Quiet Check In/ Out Counter

A very quiet check in/out counters impacted by the global pandemic Covid-19. Staycation is a new word in the dictionary, promoted by the government to encourage local holidays to help boost the economy. Lockdown, social distancing and working from home were the new norm. A very solemn time around the world.

I hope my staycation can bring a little cheer to the staff, many whose jobs are impacted. looking forward to my new phase of life.

A few silent moments

Call it pure coincidence or divine arrangements, my sister booked this room without realising it was the eve of my retirement.

A beautiful view of The Gardens by the Bay and The SuperTree Dome right from the balcony of my hotel room. I took a few silent moments to count my blessings for a very successful career. Indeed a very memorable way for me to close my professional chapter and be ready to enter the new chapter of my life.

Count down to midnight

I took a late night swim at the sky park infinity pool close to mid-night to wait for the count down going into 1 Oct 2020. It signifies the beginning of my new life journey and I said a little prayer when the clock turned passed mid-night.  I wish everyone peace and happiness and for myself to live a meaningful life where I can show kindness and bring happiness to those around me.

    Lyn,
Well expressed feelings. Many who retired would share similar feelings on the last day of career. Few are able to change from ‘caterpillar to butterfly’, swam across the line, left the old for new, in one of the world’s most beautiful swimming pool with magnificent view. Enjoy! Nxx
