Ending 2020 With A Simple Reflection

by | Dec 25, 2020 | 10 comments

It’s coming to the end of 2020 and a reflection time. This year has been particularly difficult for many around the world, with coronavirus pandemic impacting many lives and us adjusting to the new normal.

Indeed, life is a journey and there are ups and downs. Learning how to deal with them has helped me experienced a much more peaceful life which I am very grateful and thankful for.

Recap my blog tagline “Learn From The Past, Be Thankful For The Present”. We possess the power to be in control of how we want to live our life. Instead of living in regrets, I have decided to make a conscious effort to be more self aware and truthful to myself when dealing with any situations.

Truth is the unity of our thoughts, words and deeds. Are they in harmony? Nobody knows what is there in the mind of another individual; not to speak of the individual whose thoughts, words and actions are not in harmony. So if we think something, speak something else and do something that is totally different, how can there be truth. If we are not true to ourselves, how can we lead others to resolve an issue or a problem ?

Self awareness and truthfulness is a lifelong learning journey that needs daily practice and a lot of discipline.

Lifelong Learning Experiences

Everyday is a brand new day. I still struggle to be perfectly truthful, that is when thoughts, words and deeds are all in harmony. I believe it is the same with many of you.

  • We chose not to speak our entire true inner feelings even if we believed it was the best for the situation as we worried that truth might hurt.
  • We were worried about negative reactions and our inability to deal with them, so we rather avoid the conversation.
  • We performed a deed that was not aligned with our thoughts but did it purely out of obligation or pressure.
  • We carried a resentment against someone but tried to maintain a harmonious relationship on the surface.

We did not have peace of mind as it was a struggling conflict. Root causes of issues might not have been addressed and/or resolved effectively. We would be too concerned with what we saw and experienced, instead of handling the issues truthfully with our heart with patience, compassion and kindness.

So Much To Be Thankful For

It had not been an easy journey to practise self-awareness and act truthfully, that is when thoughts, words and deeds are all aligned.

We need to understand our true self and bring out the compassion, kindness, patience, love etc that is in our heart and start practising.

I have been very blessed in 2020 and there are so many things to be thankful for.

Staying safe and healthy, my lovely family and friends with a newly added wonderful son-in-law, peaceful transition into my retirement, making new twitter friends and starting my blog, enjoying my homeland and nature parks walk with Miso, exploring tasty hawker food, re-reading some old books, learning to crochet, etc… and a peaceful year !

This past year, I had consciously put in effort to handle situations with compassion, love and truth. I felt so much more at peace and blessed with the positive outcome and experiencing the fruits of my actions.

Of course, I still fall back into my reactive habits from time to time. I am determined to continue this lifelong learning journey and keep practising to become a better person and to live a more meaningful life each day.
