Uncle Roger Fried Rice YouTube video could not have been released at a better time than July 2020. It was hilarious and crazily funny that it brought hearty laughters and so much cheers to millions of people around the world when lives of many are challenged by the pandemic crisis.
Life with humour is so much more joyful and I am grateful to Comedians who help to bring humour to our lives. Comedians are a special breed of people, witty, smart and intelligent, as they seem to possess keen observation power to see the humour in even the most ordinary of things in life. Uncle Roger has it and much more. I can only say he has this X factor that makes him a notch higher than many comedians.

Laughter Is Infectious
Uncle Roger Fried Rice Video was first shared by Auntie Nancy and British Uncle Jimmy, who live in London.
It immediately went viral within my expanded family Whatsapp chat group and beyond. It was particularly relatable as we poked fun on uncle Jimmy, the “Ang Moh” who grew up not even knowing about rice and now swears by rice cooker, under the influence of his Asian Chinese wife!
Uncle Roger’s video got us talking for several days in a stretch and still talking. We simply love Uncle Roger, for he reminds us of some Asian uncles we all may have met, often condescending and opinionated, filled with a ‘all-knowing’ attitude, and ever ready to say whatever he wants to say. Uncle Roger brings us to laugh at life and to see humour in situations that can be very mundane at times.
Who is Uncle Roger ?
Uncle Roger is a character created by Nigel Ng, a Malaysian stand-up comedian based in UK.
Nigel Ng is a Notable Alumni of Northwestern University in U.S., amongst many world famous celebrities. His early education was at Chong Hwa Independent High School in Malaysia, where he was a top student.
He started performing while still attending University and was already an award-winning stand-up comedian since 2016 !
He built his career in comedy while still working as a data scientist and comedy became his full-time job by 2019.
When the entire Stand-up Comedy industry was on standstill as a result of Covid-19 Pandemic, Nigel Ng turned a crisis into an opportunity.
In one of his recent interviews with The Londoner, an English Newsletter, he talked about how Uncle Roger character came about and said without coronavirus he may never have come up with this character. Quote: ”I think in a sense lockdown has helped by giving me more free time and giving me an incentive to be like ‘well you’re broke now anyway so why not try something new’ ”.

Although Uncle Roger has made many more videos and has now amassed more than 136m views on his YouTube channel, you just cannot miss this “egg fried rice” video that went viral globally ! It is like first love, will never ever be forgotten.
