How Do I Love Myself

by | Mar 19, 2021 | 24 comments

This past week, I found myself so drained of energy that I got easily stressed with situation and people around me, and especially when things did not flow as I expected. It just felt like I had gone backwards a thousand steps with my self improvement practices and the feeling was not good.

It is days like this that I would be reminded of how important it is to spend some quiet time to allow my mind and body to take a much needed break. I needed to reconnect with my mind and body, and to recharge my energy badly.

This morning, together with Miso, I decided to take a longer drive away from home to The East Coast Park. For context, I stay in the West and while my home island may not be very big, it is still a 30 mins drive and I am so glad I did….

Enjoy the 360 degree Pano view of the morning sunrise.

Simple joy of just being able to enjoy the brief moment of the beautiful sunrise, cooling sea breeze and practising my deep breathing. It is good way to tap on nature’s energy to nourish one’s mind and body.

It is so peaceful to enjoy the here and now, and sharing here some of the many photos I had taken during the walk to capture the moments.

We all could practise loving ourself by taking care of our body, feeling and emotions.

If you can understand your own body, feeling and emotions and treat them with compassion, you will have the power to heal your feelings and suffer less. Then your help to others will be motivated by the energy of compassion so that they suffer less.

When others are happy, you would be happy and this is the way to love yourself.

    Lyn,
Great photos and allow the nature to give you joy and rebuild your energy.
Happy you know when to pull back to mend your mind and body. Tiredness is often the result to feeling low. Everyone needs time to change one’s way of giving or taking. Love and take care of yourself first doesn’t mean you are selfish. If you don’t love yourself, your giving has no compassion cause Why? and expectation will surface. You are still passing through a lifestyle transition. Enjoy!

Hahaha Lyn. Wind Up to Wind Down and vice versa. If we work round and round like our clock, the battery will slow down and recharging is needed to continue.

Great analogy of battery needing recharge too :). Thank you Spring !

Simple but profound lesson Lyn! We are so busy being busy that we forget to take care of ourselves.

Thank you for sharing Lyn! Was a long week too, feel quite helpless when things don’t happen like they should and you are not able to control them. Sometimes i tell myself that we can solve world hunger, but still can’t help feeling down. Thanks for the timely uplifting sharing.

Thank you Viv for sharing your experience, much appreciated as it is comforting to know we are not alone feeling helpless at times and that we all need that little boost from time to time to recharge our energy. ! Apologies for my delayed response to your comment, I needed a longer “hibernation” to recharge 🙂

Wise words. Great reminder of how we can’t be kind to others until we know how to be kind to ourselves- and now I’m off to the beach

Hi Lyn Agree. When we’re busy and distracted, hard to take care and love ourselves. However, it’s time to slow down and allow our body and mind to rest cos rest is a form of self care. It is a great way to love and care for ourselves. Glad u give yourself a break to relax, enjoy things u never realize or tried before. I believe u are much happier to learn how to love and best take care of yourself. I like your encouragement words: when others are happy, I would be happy. Honestly many of us have a hard time being happy with ourselves. Always reflecting on others mistakes which cannot help us to forgive and forget. It can be draining. Lyn your peaceful early morning pix reminds me always be grateful we have good health when we wake up every morning.

Thank you Eliza for your sharing your experiences and the very thoughtful comments. Yes, sometimes we are too hard on ourselves, and how can people around us be happy if we are not.. so self love and self care is so important. I agree it is not easy but possible as long as we put our mind to it. Taking baby steps is crucial for success so that we are not discouraged as it does take time to see the positive results. When we do it with the right intention and compassion in our heart, it will slowly help us forgive others mistakes.
