Onward For A Better 2022 And Beyond…

by | Dec 31, 2021 | 18 comments

“Stop! That’s the past, forget about it, not important anymore…What is it you want to do NOW to help make your future better?”

I was having a day-long conversation with a couple of very close friends and this statement kept popping up amongst us…

At one point, we were talking about how life is fated, about Karma and then we got into an interesting debate…Obviously a highly sensitive and complex topic, there will never be one aligned view or answers but it was a really authentic conversation that helped us to reflect on our 2021 journey and how far we have progressed.

There remain many unanswered questions but it was a good reflection with some points of view :

We must not simply leave life to fate… So what is fate? Is it something that is destined to happen, and we have absolutely no influence and control over it?

    • While we are aligned to a great degree that some things in life may be fated, we also believe that we can somewhat take charge and influence our life destiny by taking the right actions.

And yes, this was when we started talking about Karma, that we reap what we sow. So is fate and Karma then related? They seem very intertwined…

    • Is what we are today a result of our past actions?  Do we then really not have a choice but just to accept our fate since we cannot control it nor change our past?
    • Contrary argument was that if so, then it is actually possible for us to interpret or foresee our future by how we act and behave today, isn’t it?

Another year has quickly gone by and our topics never change all these years; it is mainly about life, work (what we do paid or unpaid) and family. In fact, it is what we talk about throughout the year. For some of us, we have added new members into our family with marriages and in-laws.

There is one conclusion that we are all aligned, that is… whether we see it as a good or bad year, it all depends on ourselves! There will always be joy and pain; happiness and sadness; peace and disturbances; trust and doubts; courage and fear; etc… and this is real life. How we see it is all about our perspective and attitude in life.

I am learning to make each new year better than the previous by living purposefully and to value each new day with gratitude and kindness. Past is not for regrets but to help us see the right actions today for a better tomorrow!

May you be blessed with Happiness and Peace as you enter 2022!

Thank you SL, I am grateful to know that my post has connected with you so directly. Yes many of us are always living in the past with regrets. So this opening line has been a constant reminder for me whenever I was falling into that trap. I hope it serves you well too. Happy New Year and may the world be peaceful in 2022 and beyond!

    Happy New Year eve Lyn!!
Very intriguing article which provokes my own thoughts.
Many of us had under estimated how powerful our minds can be. We can overcome adversity with the way we think. Life is never going to be perfect. So, unwanted incidents can happen. When we deal with them with negative thoughts, we will feel sad and unwilling. On the other hand, if we faced adversity with a postive mindset, we can easily overcome and get over it. Hence, whether or not it is fated is not important to me. What is important is how we deal with each adversity and overcome them.
Similarly, when good things happened, we have to remind ourelves to receive them gratefully and share those joy with people around us.
Thanks for sharing this thought provoking article. I really like enjoy reading it!

Awe SKL, thank you for such a long thoughtful comments, so well articulated and impactful! Indeed, only we ourselves can make a difference in our lives, be it positively or negatively. I particularly like what you said about mind power, everything is possible if we believe in it.

    Lyn,
You began the blog with a sentence which is to be debated but, with no right easy answer. You ended the blog with a sentence which is soothing advice to follow. Personally, I would simply say, life is fated with past karma being carried forward but, one can change it for better or for worse. As long as one takes or accept the responsibility of one’s consequences, one can feel good and go forward to experience the unpredictable events of another new year.

Thank you for well wishes for new year 2022 and in return, I wish you the same.
