The Doctor With A Life Purpose…

GoodHeartMatters #6

Dr Tham was the most beautiful soul and doctor that I have ever encountered. One who was so pure; sincere; compassionate; patient; caring and totally devoted to his  life purpose…which was to whole-heartedly give the best possible medical treatment and to save lives. One who would focus on doing the right thing and doing it right every single time.

To him, I was not just another patient, I was his only patient when I was with him…even though there may be a long queue of patients waiting in line. Some had complained of his reputedly long wait for each appointment… I was totally alright with that, because I know he knew what he was doing.

We were total strangers before that one phone call I made three years ago… I would have accepted an appointment scheduled for the following few days. Instead I was asked to go to his clinic immediately and within three days, I was already in the operating theatre. He knew my case could not wait and just needed to do the right thing for me.

My case could have been much more complicated…if not for Dr Tham’s meticulous review. The big difference lies in him approaching it with a heart and not just the mind, one who thought of the patient’s options first above self…this was Dr Tham.

He was very strict in his practice, a no nonsense doctor that was tremendously respected by all the nurses at both the clinic and hospital ward. He had a golden heart, was super encouraging and had a good sense of humour too. I would never forget him praising me for being a good patient despite my impatience during recovery.

I once asked Dr Tham when he would retire, and his reply to me then said it all…“God’s will” ! He was truly God sent and indeed it is God’s will that his time is now up. He served his Lord till his last breath and had lived a good and purposeful life. I thank God for him and may he Rest In Peace 🙏.

Good Heart Matters

I hope Dr Tham would be an inspiration to all aspiring and young doctors.. and most importantly serves as a reminder to both my two younger daughters who are now in their final month of medical school. May they become doctors with a good heart and one who will always do the right things and do it right to their level best for the patients, good heart matters!
